Pep Guardiola has admitted experiencing "embarrassment" following a confrontation with a camera operator in the wake of the Citizens' loss at Newcastle this past weekend.

At full time, a visibly upset Guardiola entered the St James’ Park pitch and had heated discussions with the referee, Sam Barrott and Newcastle’s Bruno Guimarães, and also touched the headphones of the camera operator.

"I said sorry," the manager remarked. "I'm humiliated, regretful, when I see it. It's not acceptable. I apologised after one second to the cameraman. That's just me. With a thousand matches under my belt I’m not a perfect person, I make huge mistakes."

"What is for sure, I defend any team and my club, that’s for sure. The reason why I want to defend my team is no doubt – based on my career to clinch the title we have to do 100 points, 98 points, otherwise we don’t win it."

City's Position and Manager's Take

The team sits in third and trail leaders Arsenal by seven points following their fourth loss this campaign. "Four defeats in twelve matches we have to improve a lot," Guardiola admitted. "Technically, we can still achieve all."

When questioned if this meant the quadruple could be achieved, Guardiola answered: "As a seasoned reporter, did you hear my talk discuss four trophies in December during our historic run? No."

Interaction with Guimarães

Regarding his confrontation with Guimarães, Guardiola said: "We have known Bruno a long time and post-match, even at the Etihad, we talk in the tunnel. We often meet and we get along well. I love it. I'm passionate, I love to talk and move my hands."

He wouldn't mind should a rival coach addressed his squad right after the final whistle. "No - as long as it's respectful like I always have done, it’s not a problem," he noted, before referencing Barrott. "The referee was involved throughout the match, he was involved. My God, he was involved."

Debatable Calls

City were unhappy that the officials denied a spot-kick on a Schär tackle on Phil Foden, while they also questioned if Guimarães was offside when Harvey Barnes scored the decisive strike. Pictures published later show he was level.

Next Big Match

Guardiola will take charge his century in Europe against Bayer Leverkusen on Tuesday. "That's impressive, showing we compete we have been there," he commented.

The club has ten points from four matches in the group, while Leverkusen have five.
