Football Recap: Broncos Edge Struggling Jets in Low-Scoring Battle
In a low-scoring contest this weekend, the Broncos clinched a close victory over the struggling New York Jets. Signal-caller Bo Nix threw an early scoring strike and kicker Wil Lutz provided the late decisive three-pointer to seal the ugly win.
Defensive Display Wins Game
Even with registering nine sacks against Jets quarterback Justin Fields, the Broncos found themselves trailing 11-10 following conceding a two-point play in the third quarter. Interestingly, the Jets could only produce just 82 offensive yards throughout the entire game.
The Denver quarterback, who completed 19 of 30 passes for 174 yards, led a critical 12-play, 65-yard possession that culminated in Lutz's 27-yard kick with approximately five minutes remaining.
Record Difficulties for Jets Attack
Despite their dismal performance, the Jets still had the ball with a opportunity to score a potential victory. But Fields was sacked on fourth-and-eight from the Denver 44 after head coach Aaron Glenn opted to attempt the conversion rather than calling on kicker Nick Folk for a long kick.
The Jets quarterback struggled all game, completing just 9 of 17 attempts for 45 yards. New York ended up with minus-10 passing yards, the fewest in any contest since 1998.
"Our passing game was completely absent," the coach stated after the contest.
